Arsenal leave it late at Forest, Liverpool recover at Brentford and Tottenham finally get their first win.

Manchester City and Arsenal came through tight games to keep the gap at the top of the Premier League at three points, but Brighton delivered the seventh round’s most emphatic result with a 5–0 win over Crystal Palace.

City were pushed by Ipswich Town before securing a 3–2 victory at the Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden put the hosts ahead, only for Daizen Maeda to bring Ipswich level. Erling Haaland then scored twice, giving City enough breathing room to withstand Zian Flemming’s stoppage-time penalty. Seven matches have now brought seven wins and 21 points.

Arsenal’s breakthrough came much later at the City Ground. With Nottingham Forest holding firm, substitute Noni Madueke supplied the decisive goal to earn a 1–0 victory. It was enough to keep Arsenal on City’s heels with 18 points, while Forest remained in the bottom three on five.

There was considerably less suspense at the Amex. Brighton took a 3–0 lead into half-time against Palace, with a Jaydee Canvot own goal followed by Diego Gomez’s remarkable strike from inside his own half and a third from Yasin Ayari. Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood added further goals after the break. Brighton finished the round third with 16 points.

Liverpool’s afternoon at Brentford was more complicated. Keane Lewis-Potter gave the home side the lead, but Yehor Yarmoliuk’s red card before the interval left Brentford defending their advantage with ten men. Victor Munoz equalised in the second half before Alexander Isak completed the turnaround for a 2–1 win. Vitaly Janelt’s late dismissal meant Brentford finished with nine.

At Everton, Pedro Neto scored both goals in Chelsea’s 2–0 victory, breaking the deadlock after half-time before adding a second late on. Chelsea’s satisfaction was tempered by an injury to goalkeeper Emi Martinez, although the clean sheet and three points took them to fourth on 13 points, one ahead of Liverpool.

Manchester United let another lead slip in a 1–1 draw at Leeds United. Bryan Mbeumo put the visitors ahead at Elland Road, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised shortly after the break. United were unable to find a winner and remained 13th with seven points. They have won just once in seven league matches.

A single goal settled the meeting at St James’ Park, where Johan Manzambi’s 35th-minute header gave Aston Villa victory over Newcastle United. The result brought Unai Emery his 100th Premier League win as a manager.

Fulham also won 1–0, with Alex Iwobi’s first-half strike against Hull City ending their wait for a league victory. Ryan Sessegnon was sent off in stoppage time, but Fulham protected their lead to secure the points.

Bournemouth joined them in recording a first league win, beating Sunderland 2–0. Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring before Sunderland lost Kevin Danso to a red card. Evanilson added the second after the interval to settle the contest.
