Ajax substitutes settle it late

Ajax 2–0 Atalanta

Ajax’s first league-phase victory arrived in the closing minutes, after Atalanta had threatened to take the points themselves.

Marc-André ter Stegen denied Jonathan Rowe in a one-on-one in the 82nd minute, and Nicola Zalewski then shot wide as the visitors searched for a breakthrough. Those chances mattered more when substitute Tolu Arokodare scored in the 87th minute.

Arokodare was involved again in the third minute of added time, knocking the ball down for fellow substitute Abdellah Ouazane to finish. The two arrivals from the bench had turned a goalless match into a 2–0 win.

Ajax joined Atalanta on three points, recovering from defeat in their opening fixture.

Salah supplies the decisive moments

Trabzonspor 2–0 Hearts

On his 150th appearance in UEFA competitions, Mohamed Salah scored one goal and helped create the other as Trabzonspor maintained their perfect start.

Hearts had an early chance to lead when Malachi Fagan-Walcott’s header struck the post. Trabzonspor took their opportunity in the 32nd minute, Salah converting a penalty after Tómas Bent Magnússon fouled Franculino Djú.

Franculino made it 2–0 in the 58th minute, exchanging passes with Salah before curling a left-footed finish past Beau Reus. Hearts ended the match with ten men after Sidny Lopes Cabral received a second yellow card deep into added time.

Trabzonspor moved to six points, leaving Hearts with one from their opening two games.
